Hamburg: Das Levantehaus

The Levantehaus is a Kontorhaus in Hamburg (Hamburg-Altstadt), Mönckebergstraße 7.The name Levante (Italian: "against the sun") comes either from the first major tenant of the business premises, the German Levante shipping line, or is based generally on the historic orientation of the house, which had shipping companies as a tenant, trading with the eastern Mediterranean , the "morning land", drifted. A stylized sun symbol (nine yellow rays arranged in a semicircle) is the registered and protected trademark of the current owner, the GbR Levantehaus.As part of the breakthrough Mönckebergstraße at the beginning of the 20th century, the Hubertushof was designed by the Hamburgers Franz Bach (architect, contractor) and Carl Bensel (architect, significantly in the facade design) as a reinforced concrete skeleton with brick facade and built in 1911/1912. Both parts of the building had a cellar, five full and two second floors and enclosed two large courtyards. There was a central, common staircase decorated for prestigious purposes. The ground floor on the side to Mönckebergstraße had shops, all other premises were intended for Kontore.The name Levante House was given to the building in the 30s of the 20th century. It was destroyed by bombs in 1943/1944, but was largely rebuilt from 1948 to 1950 by Bach & Wischer.Until 1995, the Levantehaus was used as an office building with retail on the ground floor, from 1946 to 1971 it was the headquarters of the German Philips.From 1995 to 1997, the Kontorhaus was converted into a shopping arcade and a 5-star hotel. Ongeveer 40 winkels, dienstverleners, restaurants en cafés maken momenteel gebruik van de doorgang. Het assortiment bevindt zich in het hogere prijssegment en is ambachtelijk en artistiek. Wijdverbreide winkelketens zijn vrij zeldzaam. Daar vindt u 's werelds eerste Steiff-galerie, Märklin Store Levantehaus Hamburg, Birgit en Arne Probst - handwerk uit het Ertsgebergte, juweliers en horlogehandelaren, briefpapier, maatwerk en schoenmakerij op maat, een goudsmidse, de sushifabriek en andere bedrijven in het gebied van mode en beauty, accessoires en lifestyle.
Het 5-sterrenhotel Park Hyatt Hamburg maakt deel uit van het Levantehaus en exploiteert het zwembad als spa- en fitnessclub.
In 2007 is op het dak van het gebouw een fotovoltaïsche installatie van SunTechnics met een piekvermogen van 14,35 kilowatt geïnstalleerd.
Elk jaar vinden in het Levantehaus ongeveer 10 tot 20 culturele en marketingevenementen plaats. Ze worden gefinancierd door het GbR Levantehaus, de huurders (retailers, hotels, restaurants) en andere gebruikers van het gebouw. Vooral kunst wordt aangeboden - b.v. B. door Caspar David Friedrich, Jan Jastram, Heinz Felbermair, Eberhard Oertel, Jan Siebert of "Strong Women" -, fotografie - z. B. door Henning von Berg, Klaus Kammerichs, Manfred Vollmer of Angela Roy - en literatuur - z. B. van Anton Tsjechov, Chuck Palahniuk, poëzie-slamers of de Hamburger Lesetage. Ook zijn er presentaties van ambachtslieden en producten. Er worden samenwerkingen onderhouden met het Deutsches Schauspielhaus, het Hamburg Cultural Office, de Hamburger Kunsthalle, het Literaturhaus Hamburg en andere verenigingen en organisaties.
De GbR Levantehaus reikt met onregelmatige tussenpozen een sponsorprijs uit voor creatief ontwerp (Levantehaus Design Award, uitgereikt in 2000 en 2005).
In 2004 ontving het Levantehaus de "KulturMerkur" van de Hamburgse Kamer van Koophandel en de Hamburg Cultural Foundation voor zijn culturele inzet.

Een kantoorgebouw met een doorgang op twee niveaus met bijzondere winkels en cafés in Art Nouveau-stijl.
