De Rickmer-Rickmers is een prachtige vrachtzeiler en al decennia lang een van de attracties van de Landungsbrücken.Je krijgt concurrentie van de "Peking", een stalen bark met vier masten. Ze is een van de legendarische vrachtzeilers voor nitraat uit Chili. De omvaart van Kaap Hoorn was voor hen volkomen normaal. Meest recent was ze een museumschip in New York, in een volledig vervallen staat. Het transport over de Atlantische Oceaan met het dokschip "Combi Dock III" vond plaats in juli en de restauratie zal ongeveer drie jaar duren en zal worden uitgevoerd op de Peters-werf in Wewelsfleth.De Peking zal in ieder geval een paar jaar, waarschijnlijk vanaf eind 2019, aan de historische jaren 50-loods tegenover de Elbphilharmonie liggen.Bron:

The Rickmer Rickmers is a three-masted steely cargo sailing ship, which today is a museum and monument ship in the Port of Hamburg.
At the shipyard of Bremerhaven shipping company Rickmer Clasen Rickmers ran the Rickmer Rickmers as a full ship in August 1896 from the stack. It was named after the grandson of the shipowner, Rickmer Rickmers (1893-1974). The first trip took it to Hong Kong, where it loaded rice and bamboo, and brought to Germany. The ship and the 21-man crew were led initially by Captain Hermann Hinrich Ahlers. It undertook a total of 12 round trips, mostly via the United States or the Far East. In a hurricane in the Indian Ocean, the ship lost its cross mast in 1904 and was able to be rescued by the crew in the port of Cape Town. There it was converted for cost reasons to the Bark.
The Hamburg shipping company Carl Christian Krabbenhöft acquired the ship in 1912 and christened Max. The following two years were used for the coal transport from Wales to Chile and for the transport of saltpetre from Chile to Europe. In 1914, following the outbreak of the First World War, the ship dropped anchor off the neutral Azores in Horta.
On February 23, 1916, the ship was confiscated from Portugal. Under the name Flores it then transported war goods for Great Britain.
After a conversion, the ship served from 1924 under the name Sagres of the Portuguese Navy as sailing training ship. Under this use, it received in 1930 2 diesel auxiliary engines. In 1958 she won the Tall Ships' Races Regatta. The time as sailing training ship ended in 1962 with the commissioning of the current Sagres. Then it was under the name Santo André as a depot ship in the naval port Alfeite near Lisbon.
In 1974, the chairman of the Hamburg Port Association Fiete Schmidt founded the club Windjammer for Hamburg with the aim "to keep Hamburg's past as Kauffahrtei- and shipping town in vivid memory." The club was in 1978 on the former Rickmer Rickmers attentive and swapped in 1983 in rundown condition against the yacht Anne Linde (now Polar). After several years of restoration, it has since served under its first name as a museum ship on the Hamburg Landungsbrücken.
The operator, the Rickmer Rickmers Foundation, awards the title of honorary captain almost every year on account of its special merits on what it views as worthy bearers. So far, 17 people or organizations have been honored as honorary captain.
