If you’re looking for an exhilarating cycling weekend, this Collection is for you. You’ll explore the picturesque landscapes between the Lombardy and Veneto regions of Italy, riding from Brescia, my hometown, to the renowned tourist destination of Verona.
This adventure through remote valleys and sparsely-populated areas offers ever-changing views. You’ll ride along cycle and pedestrian paths, up remote climbs, through quaint villages, along forest roads and lanes, and across vineyards. To navigate the varied terrain and dirt roads, I recommend a gravel or mountain bike.
Pack appropriate clothing for the season, a puncture repair kit and basic maintenance tools. Lake Garda is the captivating backdrop along the route, so book your accommodation in advance – this is a popular area to visit.
While the route is accessible year-round, keep in mind that the highest point reaches approximately 1,400 metres (4,600 ft) above sea level and may be covered in snow during winter. If you’re fit, you can tackle the entire route in one go. However, consider taking your time to fully appreciate the places you’ll pass through along the way.
The first stage presents the only substantial climb of the itinerary – 13 kilometres (8 mi) on asphalt, dirt, and concrete. Although the second stage features a less demanding altitude difference, it’s longer, and you might be tired from the first day – so don’t underestimate it.
You can ride the route in either direction. Both Brescia and Verona are well-connected to the motorway and rail network. The route commences and concludes at railway stations.
Take the time to explore the captivating cities at the start and finish. If you plan to transport your bike on the train, remember to pay any associated fees to ensure a safe and compliant journey.
Happy riding!
