The Schaumburger Land is wooded, hilly, green and diverse. Relaxed forest paths invite you to hike in Germany’s Weser Mountains and on the Bückeberg. In summer, corn sways in the wind in wild fields. Locals welcome you warmly to their historic towns and unique buildings. The Bückeberg Trail is the best way to get to know this beautiful area in southern Lower Saxony – the Schaumburg region.
The long-distance hiking trail is a good 55 kilometres (34 mi) long and takes you from Porta Westfalica on the northern edge of North Rhine-Westphalia, through the Weser Mountains and then over the Bückeberg mountain range to Bad Nenndorf in Lower Saxony. In this Collection, I've divided the Bückeberg Trail into three stages for you, each between 17 and 20 kilometres (9.3 and 12.4 mi) long so the route is also suitable for beginners. If you’re an experienced hiker, you can walk the trail in two days. Along the way, however, there are some places that are worth taking the time to visit.
In addition to fabulous views from the Porta-Kanzel and Idaturm viewpoints on the first, somewhat mountainous stage, you’ll come across surprises in the middle of nature such as the unique dinosaur tracks in Obernkirchen and Schaumburg forest beekeeping. In addition, you visit two well-known cities in Lower Saxony: Bückeburg and Bad Nenndorf. The Bückeberg Trail gives you the chance to explore the green sides of the Schaumburger Land and its cities.
You can travel to this hike by train. Conveniently, Porta Westfalica and Bad Nenndorf are well connected to the rail network and there are also train stations at the stage destinations. This means you can choose to only hike individual stages of the Bückeberg Trail rather than completing it in one go. Plan your overnight stays in the region, here: schaumburgerland-tourismus.de.
Leading through beech, maple and spruce forests, over the gentle slopes of the Bückeberg, across lush green meadows and to historical places, the Bückeberg Trail is the perfect getaway from stressful everyday life and ideal for a long weekend. This little discovery Tour through the charming Schaumburg countryside will do you a world of good.

In…
