    Er is een berg, ver, ver weg in de Hooglanden van IJsland, diep in een verlaten land van lava, zand en as. De IJslanders noemen het Herðubreið, maar ze noemen het ook de koningin-berg. Niet omdat het de hoogste of de meest spectaculaire is, maar dit is waarschijnlijk de mooiste. En ik was er altijd geobsedeerd…

    Met deze flinke morele boost blijf ik ondanks de tegenwind hard door trappen. Na nog een paar kilometer van een ruige maar grappige rit langs een bochtig lavaveldpad, tweede rivieroversteek! Deze keer echter geen handige superjeep te bekennen. Ik trek mijn sokken uit, knoop mijn schoenen aan elkaar en…
