St. Barbara Kapelle

A village stands by its little church - but only since it was to be sold in 2005. Today, 150 out of 375 Bergheimers are members of the Förderverein "St. Barbara Chapel ". In addition, there is a whole series of outsiders, who are worth a few euros contribution a month for the renovation and preservation of the peculiar chapel on Bleiberg.
The small church was not always a church, but served the village youth until 1965 as a school. Logically, the building not only has the actual nave, but also all kinds of ancillary rooms. They serve and serve as village community and youth room, there is a sacristy, a gym and above all the former teacher's apartment, which will soon be rented again.
Currently, the sponsoring association, which is run by Helmut Vogelsberg, Peter Schilles and Matthias Moorkamp, ​​is renovating the entire building. The apartment is also brought up to scratch and also reduced in size. The part of the apartment that was above the worship room is removed without replacement. The impetus to this, says Helmut Vogelsberg, gave the notary, in which the transfer of the Bergheim St. Barbara Chapel of the parish of St. George was founded at the 2006 founded chapel society. For the lawyer expressed his astonishment that there was a teacher's flat in the Bergheim chapel above the altar, and said: "But no one lives above the Lord God!"
That's what Helmut Vogelsberg, the chairman of the association, said: "Either we make an open vaulted room up to the roof or we pull in a smaller gallery for organ and choir." Ten to 15 people pack up during the work with; six, seven belong to the "hard core" and are always there - no matter whether inside or outside at the former school and present church is gewerkelt.
The interest in the band was not always that great. Vogelsberg: "The people did not wake up until the chapel was sold in 2005." Although hardly anyone had been involved before, there were soon ten people who had formed a community of interest for the preservation of the chapel. This gradually resulted in the now 180 members of the association.

Na het einde van de oorlog in 1945 werd een kapelbouwvereniging opgericht. Door de slechte staat van de wegen was het voor ouderen bijna onmogelijk om de dienst in de parochiekerk bij te wonen. In 1953 st. Mis gevierd op school. Nadat in 1960 een nieuw schoolgebouw was gebouwd, verwierf de parochie de oude school in 1965. Na verschillende renovaties werd het gebouw in 1985 opnieuw ontworpen volgens de plannen van Karl Pütz, Mechernich en ingewijd op 13 oktober 1985. De kapel is gewijd aan de patroonheilige van de mijnwerkers, de heilige Barbara. De voormalige schoolklok en de Barbaraklok uit de voormalige loodmijn dienen als kapelklokken.

Vroeger zat er een school in het gebouw. Dat zie je ook aan de buitenkant. De huidige kapel wordt onderhouden en verzorgd door een ondersteunende vereniging. Het is dagelijks te bezoeken van 9.00 tot 19.00 uur. Een prachtige plek van stilte en bezinning.
