Tips
  • Het kopframe van schacht 4 is een indrukwekkend overblijfsel uit het kolenmijntijdperk. Het is altijd leuk om hier langs te komen, maar het stemt ook tot nadenken.

  • One of the last steam generators produced in Germany - to be found in the middle of a district park, to visit at the Recklinghausen II colliery. The Recklinghausen 2 coal mine, like the older Recklinghausen 1 plant, was founded by the Belgian "Société Civile Belge des Charbonages d'Herne-Bochum". From 1901 to 1974 coal was mined on the shaft, then served the coal mine until 1988 only the material and rope ride. After the demolition of most of the day facilities, the coal mine was acquired in 1999 by the then Kommunalverband Ruhrgebiet (now Ruhr Regional Association), and transformed into a district park in the context of the Emscher Landscape Park. The colliery entrance area and the colliery wall were redeveloped, a generous space was created around the surviving conveyor frame and the machine hall, and a new road network with rows of trees was prepared. The area also includes a bike and skate park. The conveyor framework located in the center of the park belongs to the category "German strut framework", the associated machine hall dates from the years 1963/64. With its full wall cladding, it is a unique piece in terms of construction history. Deviating from the usual design four pulleys are arranged side by side, since it is a double shaft with two parallel shafts. The drive was made by two tandem steam engines. They were built in the early 1960s as probably the last steam hauler in Germany. The scaffold and the steam haulers were intended for the beginning of the 1960s sunk central conveyor shaft 4, which was named after a director of Salzgitter AG "Konrad end".The surviving facilities were preserved and restored by an initiative of former miners and residents of the neighboring triangle settlement before the demolition. In the eastern engine house is a district center with shooting sports facility and dance gym. The western engine house with its steam-carrying machine serves as a museum for the "Association for Mining and Industrial History Recklinghausen e.V.", presenting exhibits and photos from local mining history.
