Everything under one roof: In the passive house standard two-storey building, there will be an interactive exhibition on moorland, nature park management and visitor information.
Exhibition: Under the title "From peat extraction to climate protection - Moore changing its function", a permanent exhibition allows a journey through time through the bogs: Interactive themed islands provide insights into the traditional handstich engraving, industrial mining, the renaturation of these landscapes and their function for climate protection.
What did life look like as a peat farmer? What conditions does a healthy moor need? What can I do for moor and climate protection? The exhibition provides the answers to these questions.
A huge panorama of a moor landscape and so-called "Moorbotschafter" give an impression of this unique habitat. In a separate multivision room, one can make a change of perspective through projected films and approach the landscape bog from different perspectives: for example, from bird's eye view or very close to "eye level" of a peat moss.
Design elements such as a footbridge embedded in the floor, which runs through the building, as well as stylized peat barges and sails symbolize the nature park.
Information: On the ground floor of the building next to the exhibition also a tourist information is housed. Here, visitors can get detailed information about tourist offers such as hiking trails, events and excursion destinations in the nature park and especially on the Steinhuder Meer.
The upper floor is the seat of the nature park administration. All areas in the house are accessible. In addition, there are public toilets, which are also available regardless of opening hours of the exhibition.
Opening hours: in April Monday to Sunday: 11am - 5pm.
May to October Monday to Sunday: 10am - 6pm.
November and March Wednesday to Sunday: 11am - 5pm.
Closed December, January, February.
