Wallfahrtskirche Sankt Salvator Hollfeld

De St. Salvatorkerk in Hollfeld is gewijd aan Salvator Mundi (Latijn: Redder, Redder van de wereld). Salvatorkerken worden vaak ten onrechte aan één persoon toegewezen, namelijk de gecanoniseerde Franciscaner monnik Salvator von Horta. De Salvatorkirche Hollfeld is geheel gewijd aan het voorbeeld van Jezus Christus, die wordt aangeroepen als helper in nood en wanneer de last bijzonder zwaar is. De Hollfelder Salvatorkirche is al eeuwenlang een plaats van genade. Het meubilair combineert enkele waardevolle laatgotische individuele stukken met het goede barokke werk van de Hollfeld-kunst- en timmerfamilie Lauter. De twee verdiepingen tellende galerijen getuigen van de grote stroom pelgrims in het verleden, maar veel gelovigen bevinden zich vandaag de dag nog steeds in de kleine, interessante kerk.

Speciaal voor het Salvator Festival in het laatste weekend van september, vullen de plaatsen zich om samen te bidden tot Jezus Christus, de Verlosser van de wereld, en om de legende te gedenken die deze plaats tot een bedevaartsoord maakt. The origins of the Salvatorkirche go back to the early Middle Ages. The oldest church in Hollfeld used to be outside the city walls. At that time it belonged to the ancestral parish of Königsfeld and thus to the diocese of Würzburg. In 1017, a parish called "Holevelt" was first mentioned.
The history of the Salvator church:
The Salvatorkirche in Hollfeld, which celebrated the 300th anniversary of the laying of the foundation stone in 2004, is the only church in the Archbishopric of Bamberg with the Salvatorian Patronage. She thus wears one of the oldest patronals of the Christian West at all. Emperor Constantine the Great had built in Rome in the 4th century, next to the Lateran Palace, the great basilica as the mother and main church of the city and the globe. She was consecrated to Christ, the Salvator, and was consecrated in the year 324.
This patron saint of Christ the Salvator is probably on the first Würzburg Cathedral, which St. Burkard had built on the former parish church outside the gates of the city, since Hollfeld belonged to the diocese of Würzburg.
With the founding of the diocese of Bamberg in the year 1007, a church was gradually built within the walls of Hollfeld.
The legend puts the beginning of the pilgrimage in the year 1300, immediately after the miraculous apparition of the cross-carrying Savior.
Even the Swedish War, with its devastating consequences for Hollfeld and the surrounding area, helped the pilgrimage to new fame, since then there were two images of grace, the one that already existed and a picture of the cross-carrying Lord, allegedly brought by the Swedes.
The construction of today's pilgrimage church took place in 1704 by Johann Leonhard Dientzenhofer. It is a simple building with retracted three-sided, closed choir and a small roof rider.
The high altar shows the fifth station of the Way of the Cross "Simon of Cyrene helps Jesus carry the cross". The left side altar is dedicated to the Blessed Mother, the right to St. Sebastian.
The image of grace, the aim of the pilgrims, shows Christ, the Salvator, with the cut cross. It dates from around 1480. The artist is unknown. Traces of burn on his right side indicate the possible attempt of the Swedes to burn this figure in 1632.

Katholieke bedevaartskerk St. Salvator in Hollfeld met prachtig interieur. Een bezoek is de moeite waard voor wie geïnteresseerd is in kerken. Het ligt direct aan de hoofdstraat en is nog steeds een plek van rust.
