Tips
  • Stockkämpen is the hall designation of an approximately 4.1-acre church facility in Haller district Hörste in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
➔ It includes the St. John Evangelist Church, the associated parish hall and rectory, as well as a cemetery and is station 4 of the cultural path "Laibachweg".
➔ Stockkämpen is located in the nature reserve Tatenhauser Wald, but is not part of it.
➔ On June 15, 1689, the two aristocratic houses Holtfeld (Franz Wilhelm Freiherr von Wendt) and Tatenhausen (Friedrich Matthias Freiherr von Korff-Schmising) bought a plot of land on the Stockkampe for 560 Reichstaler - according to legend, exactly in the middle between their castles and therefore outdoors, with heath and Eichwald overgrown terrain - to build a church there. First, the rectory was built, which served as a lodging for the construction workers, then from 1691 the church. Protestant peasants from the surrounding area threw back the excavations during the night, later they tore out the young trees planted by the fathers; only a threat of punishment by the responsible Drosten ended this activity.
➔ The pastoral care was taken over by the Franciscans of the "Saxon Franciscan Province of the Holy Cross", in Stockkämpen a "residence", a smaller monastery with a lower church status than a "convention", first with two and later with three priests and one each Lay brother occupied.
➔ The Franciscans retired in 1848 due to lack of staff from Stockkämpen. Since 1825, the second pastor was a secular priest. From 1849 diocesan priests provided the service. In 1826, the parish Stockkämpen of the diocese of Osnabrück was transferred to the diocese of Paderborn, after she had been initially forgotten in 1825 in the context of the redefinition of the diocese areas in Prussia. 1849 was the construction of the new rectory, since the "monastic", structurally always rather simple, very run-down; one of the Franciscans once described it as a tugurium, a dovecote, and many of them lost their health in Stockkämpen. [5] The parsonage, rebuilt several times, was now completely available as a school building and today serves as a parish hall.
