Tips
  • The observation tower Ruine Meerhardtfels, according to the "official" name, is a landmark in Gummersbach-Dieringhausen in the North Rhine-Westphalian Oberbergischer Kreis in Germany. The 1908 built in the form of an artificial ruin tower rises on the hill Meerhardt (291 m above sea level) and offers a view of Dieringhausen and the Aggertal. The following data comes from the information magazine "Dieringhausen and surroundings" [1]:"From a letter from the city of Gummersbach to the 'Oberkreisdirektor' from 2 February 1987, the following is apparent (quoted passages in quotation marks): It was built by the Dieringhauser master mason Prince for the non-profit association for Dieringhausen and surrounding area in neo-Gothic style from Grauwackebruchstein. Its design is in the tradition of the tower ruins of English landscape gardens of the 18th and early 19th centuries' and, like these, is connected to medieval tower ruins. While the English, landscaped gardens were mainly carriers of a romantic, sentimental mood ', the Meerhardtturm, an ideal connection between the medieval and the Second German Empire.' The Meerhardttürmchen is the only one in the former Prussian Rhine Province except a broken copy in Bad Neuenahr still detectable observation tower in the form of a tower ruin. The idea for the construction of the tower goes back to the textile manufacturer Karl Siebel, who wanted to build the tower above his factory. Orally it is known that he first commissioned his own company masons, who had to break the necessary stones, for lack of own access to the building site, on the spot. In May 1906, ownership rights were transferred to the 'Gemeinnützige Verein Dieringhausen und Umgebung', with the condition for prefabrication. The order was given to the aforementioned master mason prince. From his account of August 21, 1908, construction costs of 1511.09 Mark are apparent. Since 1976, the Meerhardtturm in the monument list of the city Gummersbach.

  • Officieel mag je de toren niet meer beklimmen. Daarom is het uitzicht helaas niet meer zo goed. Maar de weg ernaartoe is geweldig.
