Alter Markt, Stralsund

Het stadhuis van Stralsund is waarschijnlijk een van de belangrijkste en bekendste seculiere gebouwen van de Noord-Duitse baksteengotiek. De uitstalmuur met de zeven puntige torens en de zes cirkels van sterren, waarvan het silhouet tegen de middag valt op de tegenoverliggende huizen (winter) of op de stoep van de oude markt (zomer), is zeer uniek. Het stadhuis van Rostock had ook een gotische bakstenen muur. Deze werd echter overdekt door een barokke veranda, zodat alleen de zeven torens van de oorspronkelijke vitrinemuur zichtbaar zijn. Het stadhuis ligt direct naast de Nikolaikirche op de oude markt. Het bestaat uit twee drie verdiepingen tellende vleugels evenwijdig aan de noord-zuid, die aan hun smalle zijden met elkaar zijn verbonden door dwarsstructuren. De twee vleugels, versierd met spitsbogen, werden gebouwd in de 13e eeuw en vormen een binnenplaats met een zuilengalerij, waarover in 1680 barokke galerijen werden gebouwd.
Het dwarsgebouw aan de zuidzijde dateert eveneens uit de 13e eeuw. Het noordelijk dwarsgebouw met zijn ruime prieel op de begane grond, een grote hal erboven en de al genoemde mooie bakstenen muur is waarschijnlijk gebouwd aan het begin van de 15e eeuw. In de 18e eeuw werd aan de westzijde een barok portaal met Zweeds wapenschild gebouwd.

Due to his machinations and affairs vulnerable he was himself a victim of intrigue and murdered on the island of Rügen. Het gebouw aan de Alter Markt is een van de belangrijkste seculiere gebouwen in het Oostzeegebied en het symbool van de Hanzestad Stralsund. Het is gelegen in het kerngebied van het stadsgebied dat door UNESCO wordt erkend als een werelderfgoed van de "historische oude steden Stralsund en Wismar". Het is opgenomen met het nummer 10 in de lijst van architecturale monumenten in Stralsund.
