From vast plains in the north, across the Elbe River to the Saale River, and from the deepest Harz Mountains to the English landscape parks in the east – the state of Saxony-Anhalt in the east of Germany has a lot to discover. This Collection takes you on a cultural journey through green nature, along former borders, and through open spaces – all best explored on two wheels, of course!

In six varied Tours, you will learn about mankind’s earliest astronomical discoveries of mankind, cycle past long-forgotten places of worship, and visit the dreamy gardens of Prince Franz. You can also explore the lowlands of the Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve and the Green Belt along the former inner-German border which are home to diverse wildlife.

The Tours in this Collection are not exactly the shortest so we recommend splitting them into two stages, depending on your fitness level, or using an e-bike. In the Tour descriptions, we’ve included more information on how to split the routes. However, Saxony-Anhalt goes easy on you in terms of climbing. The gentle gradients make the routes very pleasant to ride.

You can easily travel to and from the Tours with public transport. If you have time, you could also ride the stretch between the Tours instead of taking the train. Most of the routes can be combined and three are connected via the Elbe Cycle Path (komoot.de/collection/380). The Saale Cycle Path (komoot.de/collection/699) is also linked to the Tours via the Elbe Cycle Path near the town of Barby. This route takes you across Saxony-Anhalt and into the region where the Nebra Sky Disk was discovered.
