With mountains up to 1,493 metres (4,898 ft) high, dense forests, extraordinary rock formations and gentle river valleys, the Black Forest is the outdoor Eldorado in south-west Germany. The Murg Valley in the north is a perfect destination for a weekend adventure due to its excellent cycle paths.

The Murg flows through one of the deepest valleys in the Black Forest. Stretching 80 kilometres (50 mi), the river connects the municipality of Baiersbronn with the district of Rastatt. The Tour de Murg cycle trail, which you’ll get to know on this Tour, also follows the graceful banks of the river.

In this Collection, I’ve planned a three-day adventure around the Tour de Murg for an extended bike Tour in the beautiful landscape of the northern Black Forest. The stages will take you from Rottenburg am Neckar to Baiersbronn, through the Murg Valley to Rastatt and further along the River Enz to Pforzheim.

You can combine the leisurely Tour through the Murg Valley, which is characterised by a few descents and a few climbs, with two more mountainous stages and spend not just one day, but three on your bike in beautiful natural surroundings. Averaging 57 kilometres (35 mi), the stages aren’t too long, so you have plenty of time to take in the Highlights along the way.

You can reach both Rottenburg am Neckar and Pforzheim by train with your bike. This means you can plan your arrival and departure without a car. There’s also a large selection of accommodation at each stage destination. If you’re travelling with a tent, you’ll also find several campsites along the route. Nevertheless, you should always inquire about accommodation options in advance.
