The Bajuwaren trail takes you to the ancestral land of the Bavarians. In the Upper Bavarian holiday region around Lake Waginger and in the Salzburg Lake District, you follow in the footsteps of the Bajuwaren, the ancestors of the Bavarians. On your bike, you ride through beautiful, open landscapes, wide meadows and fields, enjoying views over numerous lakes as far as the Alps.
In this Collection, I present the 130-kilometre (80 mile) long Bajuwaren trail in four stages. The individual stages that are between 20 and 50 kilometres (12.4 and 31 miles) lead along easy well-paved surfaces. You cycle along country and municipal roads, as well as quiet cycle paths.
This varied circular route begins in Waging am See, a town on the banks of the Wagigner See lake. You can easily reach the town with the regional train from Traunstein which is accessible by long-distance train from Munich or Salzburg. In all of the stage destinations en route, there is a large selection of accommodation such as hotels, guesthouses and holiday rentals. You can also stop for refreshments en route and hop on a train if you choose to.
This scenic route leads through the German-Austrian border region around the Salzach River. You will experience wonderful nature, deep blue lakes and rich culture, as well as a lot of history. You can learn about the ancestors of the Bavarians who settled here in the sixth century at the museums along the trail. This is a bike Tour that offers the perfect mix of nature and culture.
