Der NEROBERG – Wiesbaden 🚴‍♂️

With a height of 245 m, the Neroberg is the local mountain of the Hessian state capital Wiesbaden. The popular recreation area is located on the northern outskirts of the Taunushöhen.
The name "Neroberg" is probably derived from the already mentioned in the 13th century "Nersberg" (= rear mountain). From "Neresberg", "Nerosberg" finally became the name Neroberg. Count Philipp of Nassau-Weilburg left in 1525 the vineyard on Neroberg invest. In 1900 the vineyard became the property of the city of Wiesbaden. The vineyard domain Rauenthal manages today the vineyard. Incidentally, Kaiser Wilhelm was given a bottle of "Neroberger" at the inauguration of the Wiesbadener Kurhaus. Both cars are connected by a non-powered rope. Below, the water is drained into a cistern and then pumped up into the upper cistern. The formerly operated with steam pump was replaced in 1916 by a pump with electric drive.- Just below the mountain railway station you have from the terrace a great panoramic view of Wiesbaden, over much of the Rhine-Main area and with a clear view to the Odenwald and the Donnersberg in Rheinhessen. Incidentally, the stone-leaned lions on the terrace are happily climbed for a photo. But be very careful not to fall down the wall to the vineyard! Just above the lookout point there is also a cuboid stone monument. This is reminiscent of the fallen of the First World War.
