Steinhuder Promenade

De Steinhude promenade biedt een prachtig uitzicht op het Steinhuder Meer. De verharde promenade is het startpunt voor boottochten met waterfietsen, roeiboten of motorboten en een populair ontmoetingspunt voor fotografen voor zonsondergangen.

The promenade of Steinhude offers a wonderful view of the Steinhuder Meer. The fortified waterfront is the starting point for boat trips with pedal, rowing or motor boats and popular photographer's meeting point for sunsets.
The "emigrants" from the Steinhuder Meer are the only open sailing boats in the whole of Central Europe that are used for commercial passenger transport. They have a length of 8 to 10 m, a width of 2.5 to 3 m and a sail area of ​​42 m².
Due to their good sailing characteristics, they do not tip over even with swaying passengers, fully loaded. These boats were named "emigrants" by the passengers at the beginning of this century. During their journeys to the north shore, they were transferred from Schaumburg-Lippe to Hannoversche. Today there are 38 "emigrants" on the Steinhuder Meer. Although they are all built as a round and crease frame, but none are the same.
Today, the main destination of professional sailors and their guests is the island fortress Wilhelmstein with restaurant and fortress museum. The boats do not approach this destination according to a fixed timetable, but go to sea as soon as enough people have gathered. Thus, the departure date for the return of the island fortress Wilhelmstein remains flexible. In the high season, the Wilhelmstein is approached as required from the north bank (investor Mardorf / Dükerstuben and white dune). Through a boat ring line there is also the possibility to get from Steinhude to the north shore and vice versa three times a day. For example, you can round off or shorten your hike around the Steinhuder Meer with a boat trip.
Bikes welcome
When cycling around the Steinhuder you have the opportunity to take your wheels in the sailboats. If necessary, you can rent an entire ship for yourself or in a group and set up an individual sailing trip with desired destinations. And by the way: the Steinhuder professional sailors in Central Europe are probably the last to practice commercial passenger transport with open sailboats.
