The first train station here, north of Dortmund city center, was opened in 1847 by the Cöln-Mindener Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft, together with their section Duisburg - northern Ruhr area - Dortmund - Hamm. With the connection of the Bergisch-Märkische Eisenbahn and further routes to Soest as well as Oberhausen and Duisburg via Bochum and Essen, the station quickly gained importance. In 1910 the first train station was replaced by a new building, which in turn was destroyed in an air raid in 1944.The current station building was built in 1952. An interesting detail is the glass motif window above the entrance, which shows Dortmund's industrial professions in five pictures. After several renovation and expansion plans for the station failed, extensive modernization has been underway since 2009 and is expected to be completed in 2024.More info: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dortmund_Hauptbahnhof
