Through the East in five stages - the Berlin Leipzig cycle path

If the journey is the destination, then a city trip can be a voyage of discovery before you even arrive. In this Collection, you will escape the urban jungle and explore the charming landscapes of the East as you ride from Berlin to Leipzig. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, tranquillity, nature and a slower pace await.

Over the five stages of your journey, you will visit historical remains of divided Germany, ride on the finest asphalt of the Flaeming-Skate through the landscape without any contact to traffic, stop at a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and you can even meet the largest bird on our planet. You can discover many hidden treasures in the East.

In total, you will cycle 155 miles (250 kilometres) through the countryside following cycle paths, trails and forest tracks with wonderfully little traffic. Varying in length from 23 miles to 34.7 miles (37 and 56 kilometres), the routes are relatively flat so you have enough time to discover all of the highlights. Thanks to the minimal elevation gain and reasonable distances, this adventure is also suitable for amateur cyclists and children. If you are a more ambitious rider, you can do more distance in one day by completing two stages at once.

Accommodation is available at every stage destination in Zossen, Jüterbog, Wittenberg and Bad Schmiedeberg. Here you can spend the night in bike-friendly hotels or camp. You could also have a look at the Warmshowers Community (warmshowers.org) to see if a local is available to host you.
