Walking the Pieterpad means walking on the smallest of roads and paths. All the way from Pieterburen in North-Groningen to the Sint-Pietersberg in South Limburg, the most southern part of the Netherlands. So twice ‘Pieter’. A path with as many unpaved roads as possible, passing all kinds of landscapes along the way. From the clay soil of Groningen and the sandy soil of Drenthe to the hills of Limburg. The path is divided into several stages, but you are free to determine your own daily distance. The route is marked with red and white signs and with this gpx in your hand getting lost is almost impossible. The Pieterpad was created in the early 80s by Toos Goorhuis-Tjalsma and Bertje Jens. These two friends thought that the Netherlands could use a serious long-distance walking path. So they decided to walk and describe the Pieterpad between 1978 and 1983. This path soon became the walking classic on Dutch soil.See all the stages of the Westerborkpad in this collection and read stories about it on my website: hikedaway.com/hikes/the-netherlands/pieterpad
