Enjoy incredible views and Bavarian specialties on the summit plateau of the Großer Arber and cool off your feet in Arbersee lake.

Picturesque paths run through the upper Ilz Valley, one of the few preserved stretches of wild river in Germany. An absolute highlight is also the hike through the mystical Steinklamm gorge. Here, the Große Ohe river has cut deep into the rock to create a hiker’s paradise. If you enjoy a sporty challenge, then the circular at the Frauenau dam is for you. The trail leads across the scenic Schachten, former alpine meadows in the middle of the forest. A classic is the ascent of the Großer Rachel, the second-highest mountain in the national park. From the summit, you drop down to Rachelsee lake.
